Mentor

Ever wonder where the word “Mentor” comes from? Today, we talk about “finding a good mentor” or “becoming a mentor to someone.”

But did you know that the word has a name and a story, and that Mentor was an actual person? The word comes from Homer’s Odyssey, a Greek epic written over 2,500 years ago.

When Odysseus set off for the Trojan War, he entrusted the care and guidance of his son, Telemachus, to a wise old friend named Mentor.
But Mentor wasn’t just a guardian. He was a teacher, advisor, role model, and encourager — all rolled into one. Over time, his name became the word we now use to describe someone who guides another with wisdom and trust.
Guide. Listen. Empower.

To be a mentor means to leave a legacy, just like Mentor did.
By being a mentor, remember:
- You’re not just helping someone succeed.
- You’re stepping into a timeless legacy of trust, growth, and transformation.

And when you say “I have a great mentor,”
You’re echoing a story that’s over two millennia old.

Who’s been a “Mentor” in your life? Tag them below and say thank you.
